McRae Lecture: Two-time Nobel Laureate
Dr. Karl Barry Sharpless
On May 7th, 2026, the Queen’s University International Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (Q-ACS) will host Professor K. Barry Sharpless, one of the world’s most influential chemists and a two-time recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, for a special guest lecture at Queen’s University.

Professor Sharpless is internationally renowned for his work on chirally catalysed oxidation reactions and the development of click chemistry and biorthogonal chemistry. These innovations have had profound impacts across chemistry, biology, and medicine, shaping the ways that scientists design drugs, materials, and new chemical tools.

The lecture will bring together students, faculty, and the broader scientific community to hear directly from Professor Sharpless about his groundbreaking discoveries and their far-reaching applications. This event highlights the global significance of chemical innovations and offers a rare opportunity to engage with a two-time Nobel Laureate whose work continues to inspire scientists worldwide.
